DEI! We can’t talk about it enough, because frankly - it’s THAT important. We’re fortunate to be joined this week by Danny Tobin, who has experienced camp, and life, from unique perspectives that help shed light and reiterate what we all need to be doing at our camps.
More about Danny:
Danny “Trek” Tobin is a lifetime camper having grown up going to summer camps from the time he was 4 years old. As a camper, counselor, and assistant director he brings over 25 years of camp experience to the camp community. Danny knows firsthand the impact that summer camp has in the development of a child’s life. Danny is active in professional camp organizations such as the American Camp Association (ACA) and the Western Association of Independent Camps (WAIC) and works hard to promote the best practices for camps in the areas of staffing, program, and DEI. He currently serves as the DEI advisor for the WAIC Board of Directors. Prior to making camp a full-time career Danny received a degree in Theatre Performance from Chapman University and worked as an actor, director, producer, and playwright in Los Angeles and New York. He has also worked as an Outdoor Educator and was a classroom teacher for 3 years. Prior to becoming the Director at R.M. Pyles Boys Camp, Danny was on the Year-Round Leadership Team at Camp Kinneret Summer Day Camp. Danny resides in Palmdale, CA with his wife Dr. Courtney Thomas Tobin Ph.D. and their 20-month-old son Jameson.
